David Williams passes PhD viva

On Monday 2nd February, Disruption project PhD student David Williams successfully passed his PhD viva subject to minor corrections. His thesis is entitled “Social Practice Theory and Sustainable Mobility: An Analysis of the English Local Transport Planning as a System of Provision”

York City Council Workshop on Flexi-mobility

On 30th January, Greg, Caroline and Tim spent the afternoon with York City Council, holding a workshop for members of the transport team to test and develop the ‘Flexi-mobility’ concept. The workshop generated a lot of useful and productive discussion around the concept, and it was generally thought of to be a useful and constructive contribution towards the sustainable transport debate

Commuting practices: Time, space and implications for modal shift

Moel Cass and James Faulconbridge made a presentation at the 2014 RGS-IGB conference in London.  The presentation looked at the ‘practice’ of commuting and suggested the need for policy to: address the structural barriers caused by the lack of availability of the elements that constitute bus- and cycle-commuting, and intervene in the timing and spatiality of a range of social practices to reduce the tendency for commutes to have spatial and temporal characteristics that militate against the use of bus and cycle modes.
